About this issue
Daredevil, the Man Without Fear, returns in a classic Marvel Comics story from November 1970, when the Silver Age was giving way to the Bronze Age and the streets of America were full of protest and tension. The cover shows Daredevil caught in a bomb blast, a city in turmoil and frightened onlookers. Inside, blind lawyer Matt Murdock's double life is under pressure. Hollywood is in town. On Hollywood Boulevard, western film star Buck Ralston rallies a crowd with a fiery patriotic speech. Matt's girlfriend Karen Page is there too, and the studio wants her for the female lead in Ralston's new picture. Karen wonders why Matt hasn't called, or whether he is too busy being Daredevil. The art is by Gene Colan, with inks by Syp Shores. His moody, cinematic style gives every page dramatic shadows, expressive faces and fluid action. Gary Friedrich's script captures the political climate of its day, and the issue is a window into the era of comics at Marvel. If you collect Daredevil, love Gene Colan's artwork or want to explore Marvel's early 1970s output, this issue is a worthwhile addition.
