About this issue
Daredevil, the Man Without Fear, faces one of the strangest and deadliest challenges of his career in this Silver Age classic from Marvel Comics, cover-dated March 1969. A mysterious scientist named Starr Saxon has built an unbeatable fighting robot. Gang-leader Biggie Benson, doing a stretch in jail, has paid Saxon to program the machine with a single order: destroy Daredevil. The merciless mechanical monster tracks the Man Without Fear to his own gym, and the battle begins at once. With his positronic circuits adjusting to every move, the robot is programmed not to fail. Daredevil must rely on quick thinking, acrobatics and his trusty billy club to survive, and he has to do it without the advantage of his super-senses. This issue features early comics work by Barry Smith (later known as Barry Windsor-Smith), embellished by Johnny Craig, with dynamic action, bold colours and the sharp-tongued narration typical of Stan Lee. It is a fine pick for fans of Silver Age Marvel, Daredevil collectors and readers who love classic superhero action.
