Daredevil #49: Daredevil Drops Out! #49

About this issue

Matt Murdock has had enough. In this classic Silver Age issue of Daredevil, the Man Without Fear makes a shocking decision: he is hanging up his red costume for good. Lost love, a broken friendship and the heavy price of a double life have left the blind lawyer questioning whether the legend of Daredevil is worth the sacrifice. But Hell's Kitchen doesn't stop needing a hero just because he walks away, and a green-clad menace is already on the prowl. Stan Lee's emotional, character-driven script is paired with Gene Colan's moody, cinematic artwork, with its dramatic shadows and expressive figures, enhanced by George Klein's inks. Published in February 1969, this issue is a fascinating snapshot of Marvel's late-1960s storytelling, when superheroes wrestled with real, human doubts. It's a must-read for fans of Daredevil, collectors of vintage Marvel comics and anyone curious about how Matt Murdock's inner struggles shaped the character. Featuring the iconic 12-cent cover design of the era and the classic Marvel Comics Group branding, this is a great entry point into one of Daredevil's most memorable chapters.
