Daredevil #18: There Shall Come a Gladiator! #18

About this issue

Here comes Daredevil, the Man Without Fear, in a classic Silver Age adventure from Marvel Comics. In issue #18, "There Shall Come a Gladiator!", blind lawyer Matt Murdock's world is shaken when a new and dangerous opponent steps into the spotlight: the Gladiator, a masked fighter armed with razor-sharp spinning blades. The story opens with Franklin "Foggy" Nelson in a strange East Side costume shop. Foggy is desperate to win over Karen Page, who is nearly convinced that he is the real Daredevil. He hopes a costume will settle the question once and for all. But the shop's sinister, bald owner despises costumed heroes, and he has his own plans for any customer who walks through the door. This issue is scripted by Stan Lee, with pencils by John Romita and inks by Frank Giacoia. It features the energetic art, melodramatic captions and cliffhanger pacing that made 1960s Marvel so beloved. Cameo appearances by Thor and Captain America (as wax figures) add to the fun. If you collect Silver Age comics, follow Daredevil's history, or simply love old-school superhero action with mistaken identities and masked menaces, this issue is a great pick.
