Weapon X

About this issue

Before he was the Wolverine of the X-Men, he was a man with no name, no past and a body about to be turned into a weapon. Weapon X is Barry Windsor-Smith's landmark tale of how a wounded drifter in the Canadian wilderness falls into the hands of a secret government program, with consequences that would shape one of Marvel's most popular heroes. Originally serialized in Marvel Comics Presents #72-84 and collected in this April 1994 edition, the story is written and illustrated entirely by Windsor-Smith. His dense, intricately inked pages and bold colours give the book a harsh, claustrophobic atmosphere, mixing quiet human moments with sudden, brutal violence. This is a dark, paranoid story of science, control and survival, told with great visual flair and minimal dialogue in many sequences. It is a key piece of Wolverine's origin and an essential read for fans of superhero comics who want something grittier than the usual spandex adventure. Whether you are a long-time X-Men reader or discovering Wolverine's roots for the first time, Weapon X offers a powerful, art-driven experience.
