Wolverine: Origins Annual #1

About this issue

Logan returns to a place he never wanted to see again in Wolverine: Origins Annual #1, the oversized special from Marvel Comics. In "Return to Madripoor," the savage mutant known as Wolverine steps back into the rain-lashed, neon-and-shadow streets of the lawless island where he once lived as the eye-patched brawler Patch. Writer Daniel Way, the architect of the Wolverine: Origins series, teams with artist Kaare Andrews for a moody, stylised story. Andrews' stark silhouettes, lightning-torn skies and towering city skyline give the issue a cinematic, noir-soaked atmosphere, while colorist Shannon Blanchard bathes every page in sickly greens and smoky golds. Old faces, old habits and old wounds wait in Madripoor, and the claws are never far from coming out. Gritty dialogue, brutal action and a razor-sharp sense of mood make this a great stop for fans of Wolverine, of Marvel's darker corners, and of striking comic art. Whether you have followed Wolverine: Origins from the start or simply love the character's rough-edged side, this annual works as a self-contained slice of Logan's violent world.
