Spawn #65: The Past #65

About this issue

Step into the shadows of Rat City in Spawn #65, "The Past", a dark chapter of Todd McFarlane's legendary Image Comics series, published in September 1997. The story is brought to life by the creative team of Todd McFarlane, Greg Capullo, Chance Wolf and colorists Brian Haberlin and Dan Kemp. It opens with a moody portrait of a forgotten corner of New York City, once known as a bowery, now a crumbling haven for the outcast, the desperate and the lost. Into its darkness walk three men: the enigmatic, coal-eyed Cogliostro and the two private detectives Sam Burke and Twitch Williams, who are hungry for answers about the hellspawn known as Spawn. What does Cogliostro know, and what is he willing to share? The tension builds in the cold night air as old secrets and new questions collide. Atmospheric, text-driven narration and Capullo's gritty, stylised artwork give the issue a noir-infused horror tone that fans of the series will recognise at once. Whether you are following Spawn's saga from the beginning or picking up the 1990s run for the first time, this issue offers a moody, dialogue-driven chapter in the world of Al Simmons and his supernatural war.
