The Hunt, Part 2 #2

About this issue

Spawn #22 continues "The Hunt" in Todd McFarlane's dark, ground-breaking Image Comics series. Published in June 1994, this issue is a vivid reminder of why Spawn became one of the defining comics of the 1990s. McFarlane writes and draws every page, and his trademark style is on full display: sweeping, jagged capes, rattling chains, a grinning skull and moody, atmospheric city scenes. The cover alone is a classic piece of 90s comic art. The issue opens in the shadowy world of organized crime. Joe Sacik, the dutiful accountant of mobster Tony Twist, spends his days keeping the books clean and the boss's dealings hidden behind a shell of legitimacy. Told through sharp, diagonal panel layouts and tense narration, the set-up shows a quiet man whose job gives him access to every secret, and hints that this may be a little too much for him. Colors by Steve Oliff and Olyoptics and lettering by Tom Orzechowski give the pages their distinctive, gritty look. Perfect for fans of supernatural crime, anti-heroes and dark urban horror, and for collectors who want to follow the Spawn saga from the early years.
