Spawn #117

About this issue

Ten years after the first issue, Spawn marks its Tenth Anniversary with the start of a brand-new storyline: "A Season in Hell – Part 1." Created by Todd McFarlane, this dark and gritty series follows the hellspawn who walks the line between Heaven and Hell, and this issue pulls the threads of earlier chapters into a dangerous new turn. Eddie, scarred by an abusive childhood, has reached a hospital bed after a shooting spree that ended in violence. Doctors are baffled: his heartbeat is faint, his brain shows no activity, and yet he clings to life while the media gather downstairs demanding answers. Where is his spirit? Elsewhere, Spawn streaks across the night sky above the city, hunting his quarry in a blaze of supernatural light. With moody, atmospheric art by Angel Medina and a striking cover by Greg Capullo, this anniversary issue delivers brooding horror, urban dark fantasy and superhero action in one package. It is a perfect jumping-on point for fans of Todd McFarlane's creation and of the occult, tormented antiheroes of 2000s Image Comics.
