Spawn #113 – The Kingdom, Part VII #113

About this issue

Spawn #113 continues "The Kingdom" storyline in Todd McFarlane's dark, gothic superhero saga, with Part VII of the arc. The city is edging toward the Night of the Cleansing. Spawn has taken the burden of the city's sins upon himself. Elsewhere, Dawn is about to "save" Max when she meets an untimely end, courtesy of Ab and Zab. Meanwhile, Simon and his legion of vampires prepare to attack Spawn, and Ab and Zab are in the Citadel of the Kingdom, busy building a doorway to Hell. The issue opens with a bleak, stylised sequence of a desperate man at the end of his rope. It is told in stark panels and haunting captions that set the tone for the chapter. The issue is written by Brian Holguin and Todd McFarlane. Angel Medina provides the pencils, inked by a team that includes Danny Miki and Victor Olazaba. Brian Haberlin and Dan Kemp add the colors, and Greg Capullo supplies a striking cover of the chained, red-caped Hellspawn against a moonlit sky. If you love horror-tinged superhero comics, occult conspiracies and moody, high-contrast art, this chapter is a gripping next step in the saga.
