Spawn #102: Cautionary Tales – Part 1: The Speed of Night #102

About this issue

Spawn issue 102 opens the dark two-part arc "Cautionary Tales" with the chapter "The Speed of Night", from Todd McFarlane's long-running Image Comics series. After his farewell to Granny Blake and his clash with the question of Heaven, Hell and the role he was meant to play, Al Simmons is left to face the consequences of his choices. The shadows are moving and the story turns to the desperate, the forgotten and the damned. Who gets a second chance, and what would they give to get it right? Scripted by Brian Holguin with a plot by Holguin and McFarlane, the issue pairs the moody pencils of Angel Medina with inks by Danny Miki and Victor Olazaba. Rich colours by Brian Haberlin and the Haberlin Studios team, lettering by Tom Orzechowski and a striking cover by Greg Capullo deliver the gothic, atmospheric look the series is known for. Whether you are a long-time follower of the Hellspawn saga or a reader who loves supernatural horror comics with a haunting, poetic voice, this issue is a strong, atmospheric chapter in a landmark of 1990s and 2000s independent comics.
