Fugitives #40

About this issue

Spawn #40 plunges you back into the dark, brutal world of Todd McFarlane's legendary anti-hero. In "Fugitives", the first part of a new storyline, the action moves to the shadows of New York City's Lower West Side, where a forgotten corner of the Bowery known as Rat City hides the homeless from the eyes of the law and the public. But Rat City has a new visitor. A caped figure watches from the rooftops beneath a giant moon, and the whispers below speak of a new hero, and even a king. Down in the alleys, the city's outcasts struggle to survive, unaware of what is watching over them. Written by Todd McFarlane, with moody, razor-sharp pencils by Tony Daniel, inks by Kevin Conrad and rich colour by Todd Broeker, this 1990s Image Comics issue delivers the gothic atmosphere, dark street-level storytelling and striking art that made Spawn a phenomenon. The cover shows a chain-wrapped, snarling Spawn in full attack, a classic image of the era. A must-read for fans of dark superhero comics, supernatural horror and urban noir, and a great jumping-in point for collectors of the 1990s Spawn run.
