Spawn #29

About this issue

Spawn #29 from Image Comics opens one of the most unexpected and emotional moments in the long-running dark superhero series. Beaten and drained after his battle in Heaven, the hellspawned anti-hero Al Simmons collapses in a quiet suburban backyard, still wrapped in his living chains and bleeding necrotic energy. Then a curious little boy named Andy Frank appears with a bright orange ball and a simple question: do you want to play? Innocent, kind and utterly unafraid, the child sees not a monster from Hell but a tired stranger who needs help. What follows is a striking contrast between brutal, gothic horror and small-town innocence. With its blood-splattered cover by Greg Capullo and Todd McFarlane, richly coloured, atmospheric artwork and powerful captions, this issue shows why Spawn became a defining title of 1990s comics. It is a great pick for readers who love dark superheroes, supernatural drama and character-driven storytelling with a strong visual punch. Whether you are a long-time collector filling gaps in your Spawn run or a newcomer curious about Todd McFarlane's anti-hero, this chapter delivers mood, heart and menace in just 24 pages.
