Spawn #27

About this issue

Hellspawn Al Simmons is back in a dark, atmospheric chapter of Todd McFarlane's legendary Spawn series. Issue #27 opens with a striking cover: the chained, cloaked anti-hero lies broken amid splashes of toxic green ichor, a reminder that his supernatural powers come at a terrible price. Inside, the story moves to a shadowy Massachusetts estate, where a man of deep and troubled faith feels passed over and sets out to prove himself. Convinced that he has been given a test, he turns to modern technology, private jets and a fortune spent on preparing for a coming kingdom. As his journey takes him toward New York, he begins to wonder whether he is blessed or cursed. His path is certain to cross that of the mysterious figure the newspapers call Spawn. With moody inks, bold colour, gothic church imagery and a sinister, brooding tone, this issue is classic mid-90s Image Comics. It suits fans of dark superhero stories, supernatural horror and the Spawn mythos who want to follow the war between Heaven and Hell on the streets of the modern world.
