"Myths", Part 1 #14

About this issue

Spawn #14 kicks off "Myths", a dark and gritty chapter from Todd McFarlane's legendary Image Comics series. Originally published in September 1993, at the height of the 1990s indie comics boom, this issue is written, drawn and cover-painted by McFarlane himself, with colors by Steve Oliff and Reuben Rude and lettering by Tom Orzechowski. The cover says it all: a monstrous, horned and fanged demon looms over the grinning, blue-faced Violator, the foul-mouthed hellspawn clown who has become one of the most memorable villains in comics. Inside, Violator takes center stage with his trademark swagger, bragging, boasting and spinning tall tales about the toughest worker he ever knew. Expect black humor, grotesque creature design and McFarlane's signature scratchy, hyper-detailed linework. Whether you are a long-time Spawn collector filling gaps in your run or a new reader curious about where the dark antihero's saga took shape, this issue is a vivid snapshot of early-90s comics at their most extreme. Part one of a multi-part story, it sets the stage for what follows in the next installment.
