Crossing Over #10

About this issue

Spawn #10 brings one of the most talked-about collaborations of the 1990s comics boom: the "Crossing Over" story, written by Dave Sim, the creator of Cerebus, and drawn by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. Hellspawn Al Simmons is bound in chains and haunted by the memories of the man he used to be. He is torn between two identities, as the opening pages put it: "I am Spawn" and "I am not Spawn." He shares the memories of his own death, the loved ones he left behind, Wanda and Cyan, and the burning gaze of the violator who killed him. The issue is moody, atmospheric and visually striking, with McFarlane's dramatic cape and chain work and bold colour by Steve Oliff, Reuben Rude and Olyoptics. The cover is a playful gag, a black-and-white Spawn caught mid-colouring by a cartoon pig character, and it makes the issue a fun collectible for fans of the series. Whether you are revisiting early Spawn or discovering the dark, supernatural world of Image Comics' flagship hero for the first time, this issue is an essential piece of the character's early run. The issue is dedicated to Don Heck. Buy now and start reading online instantly in your browser, with an optional printed copy available.
