Spawn #62: Return #62

About this issue

Spawn #62, "Return", brings Todd McFarlane's dark antihero back into the shadows of a world where no one is safe from vengeance. Written by Todd McFarlane and drawn by Greg Capullo, this June 1997 issue from Image Comics delivers the gritty, atmospheric storytelling that made Spawn a defining title of the 1990s. The issue opens in a moonlit bedroom, where a sleeping man is about to learn what it means to be hunted. Narration sketches the world of Cold War espionage, political intrigue and a secretive U.S. intelligence bureau, while a chilling visit in the night sets the tone. Spawn looms out of the darkness in his tattered crimson cape, chains rattling, green eyes blazing, and he is in no mood for mercy. The cover features a striking, winged-helmeted warrior figure in gold armour against a burst of radiant colour, a bold example of Capullo and McFarlane's flamboyant late-90s artwork. Inside, the heavy inks, dramatic panel layouts and moody colours from Brian Haberlin and Dan Kemp make every page feel like a nightmare come to life. Whether you are a long-time fan filling gaps in your Spawn run or a newcomer curious about one of the most influential indie superhero series ever published, this issue is a fast, atmospheric dive into McFarlane's dark universe.
