Spawn #64: Checkmate #64

About this issue

Spawn returns in "Checkmate," issue #64 of Todd McFarlane's dark, award-worthy-looking superhero horror series from Image Comics, first published in August 1997. Drawn by Greg Capullo with inks by Chance Wolf and McFarlane, this issue delivers the moody, razor-sharp art that made the series a defining title of 1990s comics. Since his startling return from the grave, Spawn has drifted through his days searching for a purpose. Now, with his human features restored and his identity recaptured, he finally has a plan. His strategy is two-fold: neutralize his enemy, then reveal himself to the one person he still exists for, his wife Wanda. He cannot step back into her life, but he can protect her, and tonight that matters more than anything. Meanwhile, Jason Wynn, the ruthless power broker, is rattled by threats closing in around him, and the city's streets hum with tension as Sam and Twitch chase a hot tip. Chains, shadows, rooftops and a blood-red cape set the stage for a tense game of strategy between hunter and prey. Perfect for fans of Spawn, Image Comics, anti-heroes and gothic urban supernatural action, this issue is a great pick-up for collectors and new readers alike.
