Chachu #1
Los Angeles, 1979: everyone has a theory about the missing man, but one searcher wants the truth.
Written by Iman Vellani · Art by Marianna Ignazzi
About this issue
Los Angeles, September 1st, 1979. A man has vanished, and the people who loved him are left with nothing but rumors. Some say he was depressed, some say he was a mobster, a junkie or an atheist. His niece sets out behind the wheel of a vintage car to find him, and to learn what he was really looking for when he chose to get lost. Chachu #1 opens a stylish, character-driven mystery set in the sun-baked streets and Hollywood hills of the late 1970s. Writer Iman Vellani teams up with artist Marianna Ignazzi, colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Lucas Gattoni for a story that blends noir atmosphere with family drama, faith and the stories families tell about their own. The art is bold and retro, with sunset oranges, deep shadows and sharp, graphic character design that recalls vintage crime posters. Cigarette smoke, rearview mirrors and gossip-filled family chatter set the tone for a search that is as much about the people left behind as the man who disappeared. If you love period mysteries, diaspora family stories and striking visual storytelling, this first issue is an ideal place to start.
