A Round-Heeled Woman

About this book

At sixty-six, retired English teacher Jane Juska had spent years without intimacy when a French film sparked a bold idea. She placed an ad in The New York Review of Books: "Before I turn 67 – next March – I would like to have a lot of sex with a man I like. If you want to talk first, Trollope works for me." The replies that followed changed her life. A Round-Heeled Woman is her frank, funny and disarmingly honest memoir of what happened next. With wit, self-mockery and a sharp eye for the absurdities of desire, Juska recounts her encounters with a succession of men – charming, awkward, wealthy, wounded – and what each taught her about longing, loneliness, love and growing older. Along the way she looks back on her own past, her work as a teacher, and her lifelong love of books. This is a memoir about appetite in every sense: for company, for touch, for conversation and for a life that is not finished yet. It speaks candidly about sex and ageing, and it will appeal to readers of confessional memoir, women's life stories and anyone who believes it is never too late to start over. Bold, warm and often hilarious, it challenges assumptions about what women want in later life. Start reading online instantly in your browser at E-ComicBooks.com.
