Regicide #1

About this issue

Summer is gone, and in the Romanian countryside the harvest brings no joy. Regicide #1 opens in Țara Românească, where peasants bend over the wheat under a sickly, pink-tinged sky, and the land that once threw golden light across healthy crops now lies under a bitter haze. Patrick Kindlon (Hexagon Bridge, Punks Not Dead) teams up with artist Ludovic Lalliat for a brutal, hand-inked vision of medieval Eastern Europe. The cover promises blood-soaked horror: a shaggy, white-bearded figure wading through a crimson pool among swords and severed remains. Inside, the pace starts slow and uneasy, with scythes cutting grain, flies swarming at dusk, and a masked, hooded rider on the horizon who seems to carry a darker purpose. Lalliat's rough, expressive linework and earthy watercolour-style palette give every page the feel of a grim folk tale. Dry, tense dialogue and the stark captions set up a world of hardship, superstition and violence, where even the simplest village holds secrets. If you like dark historical fantasy, folk horror and bold independent comics, this first chapter, titled "No Man Like Him", is an unsettling place to start.
