Pet Sematary

About this book

Dr. Louis Creed has everything: a loving wife, two young children and a new job as head of the University of Maine's campus medical service. When the family moves into a beautiful old house in rural Ludlow, it seems like the start of a perfect new chapter. But the busy highway out front, thundering with tanker trucks, has already claimed far too many of the neighbourhood's pets. Beyond the house, a winding path leads through the woods to a small, hand-made graveyard where generations of local children have laid their animals to rest. Its sign is misspelled: PET SEMATARY. And, as Louis soon learns from his elderly neighbour Jud Crandall, the secrets of the land reach far past that little cemetery, into a place where the dead do not always stay buried. Stephen King has called Pet Sematary the most frightening book he has ever written, so disturbing that he once put the manuscript away in a drawer. This edition from Scribner includes King's own introduction, telling how a real country road, a lost cat and a terrifying near-miss inspired the novel's unthinkable "what if". A cornerstone of modern horror about grief, love and the lengths we go to when we cannot let go, this is essential reading for fans of the genre.
