45-The Snout in the Dark

About this book

A demon walks the moonlit streets of Shumballa, and the dead are already piling up. In the black empire of Kush, the commander of the Gallah spearmen is found torn apart in his locked tower cell, his throat ripped out by teeth like razor-sharp chisels. Was it a monster from the darkness, or a crime summoned by human malice? In the shadowy court of the Stygian ruling caste, ambitious nobles see opportunity in the bloodshed. Unrest rumbles through the mud-hut streets of Punt, drums beat in the night, and the sullen anger of a whole people is ready to ignite. "The Snout in the Dark" is a Conan story from the sword-and-sorcery world created by Robert E. Howard, the founding father of heroic fantasy. Expect lost cities, treacherous intrigue, supernatural terror and brutal action, all told in Howard's driving, vivid prose. This text is entry no. 45 in a chronological reading order of the Conan saga, so it fits neatly into a complete read-through of the Cimmerian's adventures. Whether you are a long-time fan of Hyborian Age tales or discovering pulp fantasy for the first time, this atmospheric story of fear, politics and savage magic delivers a chilling ride.
