The Last Driver #1

About this issue

This car is my chapel. This wheel is my Bible. This road is my religion. Let us pray. The Last Driver #1 launches a new high-octane creator-owned series from Sean Murphy, the artist and writer known for his kinetic, richly detailed black-and-white and colour linework. Set in a future shaped by a fractured America, the story opens with a sweeping, infographic-style history lesson: a nation born of freedom, torn apart by its first Civil War, and then split again by a second one, fought not with rifles and cannons but with insults, outrage and algorithms. Now tyranny has returned, and America has many kings: the money barons. Out on the open road, a lone, weathered driver in a chequered racing jacket grips the wheel of a muscle car, treating the highway as his faith. Murphy's gritty city vistas, blazing headlights and dramatic motion make every page feel like a chase. Coloured by Simon Gough and lettered by AW's DC Hopkins, this first issue sets the stage for a dystopian road story packed with speed, style and sharp political edge. Perfect for fans of dystopian science fiction, car-chase action and bold, cinematic comic art.
