73-Drums of Tombalku

About this book

Deep in the burning sands of the southern desert, survival is a matter of speed, steel and nerve. Drums of Tombalku is a swords-and-sorcery adventure from Robert E. Howard, the pulp master who created Conan the Barbarian and shaped the whole sword-and-sorcery genre. The story opens at a lonely water hole at sunset. Three men share a cheerless meal: two wiry Ghanata warriors and the yellow-haired outlander Amalric. Then a giant rider appears, the famed scimitar-fighter Tilutan, carrying an exhausted girl he found reeling through the dunes. Greed, rivalry and sudden violence follow, and when the dust settles the lone survivor finds himself face to face with a mysterious stranger who speaks in a tongue both unfamiliar and strangely half-known. Howard's prose is fast, vivid and merciless. The desert is a living threat, loyalties last only as long as the next heartbeat, and every encounter can end in blood. This text runs to roughly 9,800 words in two chapters, making it a quick, gripping read for fans of heroic fantasy, desert adventure and classic pulp fiction. Whether you are a long-time Conan reader or are discovering Howard's fiction for the first time, this tale delivers action from its very first lines.
