69-People of the Black Circle

About this book

The king of Vendhya lies dying, struck down not by poison or steel but by black sorcery. His sister, the Devi Yasmina, is left to face a conspiracy that stretches from the palace of Ayodhya to the forbidding peaks of the Himelian mountains, where the Black Seers of Yimsha work their terrible will. In the borderlands, a fierce barbarian from the hills, Conan of Cimmeria, is drawn into the intrigue as kings, spies and sorcerers move against each other. Treachery hides behind every smile, and loyalty is a currency few can afford. People of the Black Circle is one of Robert E. Howard's most celebrated Conan adventures, a novella of about 31,000 words that blends sword-and-sorcery action, exotic Eastern settings and creeping supernatural dread. Howard's vivid, muscular prose sweeps you from torch-lit palaces and lawless mountain passes to hidden strongholds of dark magic. If you love classic pulp fantasy, brooding atmosphere and a hero who trusts his sword more than any spell, this is essential reading for fans of Conan, sword-and-sorcery and the roots of modern dark fantasy.
