43-Vale of Lost Women

About this book

Deep in the steaming jungles of the Black Kingdoms, a captive girl clings to the edge of madness. Livia has witnessed horrors that have shattered her world, and she is now held in the village of Bakalah, at the mercy of its bloated, toad-like king, Bajujh. Her hatred is the only thing keeping her alive. Then a stranger marches into the firelit village at the head of a column of black spearmen: a tall, blue-eyed white warrior who moves like a panther and commands the respect of a king. For Livia he may be the one chance of vengeance and escape, and she begins to form a desperate plan. Vale of Lost Women is a classic sword-and-sorcery adventure by Robert E. Howard, the pulp master who created Conan the Barbarian. It is a short, fast-paced story of about 6,500 words, packed with savage atmosphere, danger and the raw struggle for power in a wild, untamed land. Be warned: it is written in the pulp style of the 1930s and contains violence and cruelty, as well as dated depictions of race and gender that reflect its era. If you love vintage fantasy, jungle adventure and the roots of the genre, this is a story to savour. Start reading online instantly in your browser, with no downloads required.
